Gemini 3D CSEM Model Study Movies | E-field Vectors in Time Domain Movie

The movie shows electric field vectors (of unit length) and electric field amplitudes as shaded colors for a CSEM transmitter being towed over the salt structure at Gemini Prospect, Gulf of Mexico. The vertical plane is 16 km wide, oriented from east to west, and goes from the sea surface to about 7 km depth. The horizontal plane is located at the seabed. A transmission frequency of 0.25 Hz was modeled using the 3D CSEM finite difference code of Chester Weiss. The model consists of 1km of 0.3 Ohm-m seawater underlain by 0.5 Ohm-m conductive sediments. The seismically determined salt structure had resistivities set to 100 Ohm-m. As the transmitter is towed over the shallowest portion of the salt, the transmitted energy couples into the resistive salt and rapidly diffuses laterally (to the left) through the salt with little attentuation.
